ESI REGISTRATION
ESI, which stands for Employees' State Insurance, is a social security and health insurance scheme in India. It is governed by the Employees' State Insurance Act, 1948. It is administered by the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), which is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. ESI provides medical and cash benefits to employees and their dependents in case of sickness, maternity, disability, or death due to employment injury.

WHICH ENTITIES ARE REQUIRED TO UNDERGO ESI?
Retail Shops: Businesses involved in retail sales.
Hotels and Restaurants: This applies to hotels and restaurants engaged in sales activities but not in manufacturing.
Cinemas and Theaters: Including preview theaters.
Road Transport Establishments: Entities involved in road transportation.
Newspaper Establishments: Organizations related to the newspaper industry.
Educational Institutions: Private educational institutions, whether operated by individuals, trustees, societies, or other organizations.
Medical Institutions: This category covers a wide range of healthcare facilities, including hospitals, nursing homes, diagnostic centers, and pathological labs, whether they are owned by corporations, joint sectors, trusts, charities, or private entities.
WHAT IS THE CONTRIBUTION RATE FOR ESI?
Employee's Contribution: Typically, the employee's contribution to ESI is 0.75% of their gross monthly salary or wages. This amount is deducted from the employee's salary by the employer and is then remitted to the ESIC on the employee's behalf.
Employer's Contribution: The employer is also required to make a contribution to ESI. The employer's contribution rate is higher, currently at 3.25% of the employee's gross monthly salary or wages. This amount is in addition to what the employee contributes
